World Heritage in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The world heritage in the Democratic Republic of the Congo includes (as of 2018) five UNESCO world heritage sites , all of which are world natural heritage sites. The Democratic Republic of the Congo ratified the World Heritage Convention in 1974, and the first World Heritage site was added to the World Heritage List in 1979. The last World Heritage Site to date was registered in 1996, and all five sites are on the Red List of World Heritage in Danger .

The following table lists the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in chronological order according to the year of their inclusion on the World Heritage List (K - Cultural Heritage, N - Natural Heritage, K / N - Mixed, (R) - on the Red List of World Heritage in Danger ).

63 The park is 790,000 hectares. It was founded in 1925, making it the oldest national park in Africa. The park is known for the mountain gorillas that live there . The national park is endangered due to the consequences of the Second Congo War .

Okapi game reserve

718 3,900 to 6,350 okapis live in the reserve, around a third of the total population of the animal. The reserve is at risk from deforestation .

Current World Heritage candidates

As of 2018, three sites are entered in the tentative list of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the last entry was made in 1997. The following table lists the sites in chronological order according to the year they were included in the tentative list.
