In 1978 the following new admissions to the UNESCO cultural and natural heritage took place:

World heritage

At its second meeting from September 5 to 8, 1978 in Washington, DC , the World Heritage Committee added sites to the UNESCO World Heritage list for the first time . There were a total of twelve sites from seven countries, including eight cultural heritage sites (K) and four natural heritage sites (N).
