New inclusions in the UNESCO cultural and natural heritage 2017
In 2017, the new admissions listed below in chronological order took place in the UNESCO cultural and natural heritage . In addition to the new entries, changes and deletions are also listed.
Global Geoparks
On May 5, 2017, the UNESCO Executive Council named eight geological sites in Asia, Europe and Latin America, which the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council had selected at its first meeting in Torquay in September 2016 , as UNESCO Global Geoparks and expanded two existing geoparks.
These were the first new entries since the creation of the name UNESCO Global Geoparks in November 2015, when the then Geoparks of the Global Geoparks Network were integrated into the “International Geoscience and Geoparks Program” (IGGP) of UNESCO.

- Causses du Quercy (France)
- Cheongsong (South Korea)
- Comarca Minera (Mexico)
- Keketouhai (China)
- Las Loras (Spain)
- Mixteca Alta (Mexico)
- Qeshm Island (Iran)
The following have been expanded:
Biosphere reserves
On June 14, 2017, the International Coordination Council of the UNESCO program “Man and the Biosphere” (MAB) recognized 22 new biosphere reserves and four cross-border reserves, twenty UNESCO biosphere reserves are excluded from the global network.
World heritage sites
For the 41st session of the World Heritage Committee from July 2 to 12, 2017 in Krakow , 29 sites were nominated for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List , including 23 cultural sites, five natural sites and one mixed site. In addition, five sites were nominated for significant changes to their boundaries. 21 sites were newly entered on the World Heritage List, including eighteen cultural heritage sites (K) and three natural heritage sites (N). Angola and Eritrea received their first World Heritage Sites. Four existing world heritage sites were expanded and one downsized. One of the new World Heritage Sites was also placed on the Red List of World Heritage in Danger ( R ).

Red List
The following were included in the Red List of World Heritage in Danger:
- Historic center of Vienna (Austria, World Heritage since 2001)
- Old town of Hebron / al-Chalil (Palestinian Autonomous Areas, World Heritage since 2017)
The following were deleted from the red list:
- Simien National Park (Ethiopia, World Heritage since 1978, Red List since 1996)
- Comoé National Park (Ivory Coast, World Heritage since 1983, Red List since 2003)
- Gelati Monastery (Georgia, World Heritage since 1994, Red List since 2010)
World document heritage
The International Advisory Committee (IAC) of the World Document Program decided at its 13th meeting, which took place in Paris from October 24th to 27th, to include 78 new nominations in the World Document Heritage . In addition, the IAC proposed three extensions to existing enrollments and recommended provisional enrollment for two further nominations for which secondary points still have to be confirmed.
