Old city and city walls of Jerusalem

Old City of Jerusalem

The Old City of Jerusalem in East Jerusalem , annexed by Jordan in 1950 and Israel in 1980 , which is also claimed by the Palestinian Territories , had been proposed by Jordan for inclusion in UNESCO World Heritage. In 1981 it was added to the World Heritage List as a World Heritage Site under the name Old City and City Walls of Jerusalem , although it was emphasized that this decision had no implication about Jerusalem's affiliation to a specific state. The world heritage site is not assigned to any state, but entered separately in the world heritage list under "Jerusalem (on the proposal of Jordan)". In 1982, again at the suggestion of Jordan, it was put on the Red List of World Heritage in Danger.
