The Los Glaciares National Park ( Spanish Parque Nacional Los Glaciares = "the glaciers") is located in the Argentine part of Patagonia ( Santa Cruz Province ). It covers an area of 4459 square kilometers and was approved by the UNESCO in 1981 in the World Heritage List was added.
In addition to a few smaller glaciers, the national park essentially consists of the three large glaciers Perito Moreno Glacier , Upsala Glacier and Viedma Glacier . These flow into two lakes, Lago Argentino and Lago Viedma , which are only partially within the national park. The Bahía Onelli is located on the Upsala arm of Lake Argentino .
In the northern part of the park there are the granite mountains Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre , which are of interest to mountaineers and trekking tourists.
The Chilean national park Torres del Paine borders in the south of the national park .
Los Glaciares is visited by tourists from all over the world. The starting point is the small town of El Calafate on Lake Argentino and the village of El Chaltén, founded in 1985 .
