Los Cardones National Park
The Los Cardones National Park (Spanish parque nacional Los Cardones ) is a protected area in northwest Argentina . It was opened in 1996 and covers an area of 65,520 hectares at altitudes between 2700 and 5000 m. The park is located about 100 km southeast of Salta , capital of the province of the same name . It was named after the so-called Cardón ( Echinopsis atacamensis ), a species of cactus that grows at heights of up to 3400 meters and grows up to 12 meters during its lifespan of 250 to 300 years.
