Pontus Farnerud (born June 4, 1980 in Helsingborg ) is a former Swedish football player.

Farnerud started his professional career at Landskrona BoIS . From there he moved to AS Monaco , with whom he won the French championship title in 2000 . In 2003 he was loaned to Racing Strasbourg for a season . After he was again in the AS Monaco squad for a year, he finally moved to Racing in Alsace in 2005. At the side of his brother Alexander , however, he only stayed one season at the club before moving to Sporting Lisbon after relegation from Ligue 1 . In 2008 he returned to Northern Europe and signed a contract with Stabæk Fotball in the Norwegian Tippeligaen . With the club he was able to celebrate the first championship title in the club's history at the end of the year. From 2012 to 2013 Farnerud played in his home country for IFK Göteborg and then he moved to the fifth division Glumslövs FF and ended his active career there after the 2014 season.

National team

Having already for the 21 U-Sweden was active Farnerud came in 2002 with his first appearances in the A-team and was in the World Cup squad in 2002 into consideration, without being used. In the following two years he was part of the expanded squad, but was only used irregularly. At the European Championships in 2004 he was called up to the squad again, but was again without a tournament appearance. It was not until 2010 that he was called up again after a six-year hiatus and played in two friendly matches.
