Sierra de las Quijadas is a national park in Argentina . It is located in the northwest of the province of San Luis , which borders on Mendoza in the west, San Juan and La Rioja in the north, and Córdoba in the east and La Pampa in the south. It can be easily reached from the city of the same name, San Luis, via organized tours. The area of the park rarely visited by foreign tourists covers an area of 150,000 hectares.

The park is well known among paleontologists for its fossils and dinosaur tracks from the Aptian from around 120 million years ago. It is also very popular with Argentine tourists because of its bizarre rock formations, which are very similar to Bryce Canyon National Park . The University of San Luis and the American Museum of Natural History are collaborating on excavations here.

The trekking opportunities are excellent, but the complex system of canyons requires a keen sense of direction. A guide is advised as the extremely heavy summer rains can trigger flash floods, making the canyons very dangerous. In addition, temperatures rise to 50 ° C in summer (December to February). At the entrance there is a small campsite and a small shop.
