The Aconquija National Park is located in the west of the Argentine province of Tucumán . It emerged in 2018 from the much smaller predecessor park Campo de los Alisos with 180 km².

geography

The park is located in the Sierra del Aconquija part of the Precordillera, the easternmost mountain range of the Andes, west of the city of Concepción

Ecosystem

It primarily protects the ecosystems of the southern Yungas and the high Andes , as well as the transition zone between the two. Starting from the Gran Chaco at the foot of the Andes, over ever-moist subtropical mountain rainforests and cloud forests, the Altiplano ecosystem extends up to the snow-capped peaks of the Nevados del Aconquija. On the western side of the mountain range, the vegetation is already changing into the desert vegetation of the Andean valleys in the rain shadow. The ecosystem is home to over 2000 vascular plants. The fauna of the park includes the typical fauna of the Yungas, the Gran Chaco and the Andes. Including the southern tamandua , umbilical pigs and tarukas .
