Nippon Sei Ko Kai

The Nippon Sei Ko Kai ( Japanese 日本 聖公会 Nippon Seikōkai , literally: "Holy, public assembly of Japan") is a member church of the Anglican Community and is limited to the territory of Japan .

Its beginnings lie in the missions of the 19th century and originated in the USA . It was officially founded in 1887 and had its first resident as a bishop in 1923 . It has been an independent Anglican ecclesiastical province since 1930 .

Today the ecclesiastical province of Japan ( 日本 管 区 , Nippon Kanku ) has 11 dioceses ( Chūbu , Hokkaidō , North Kantō (Kitakantō), Kobe , Kyōto , Kyūshū , Okinawa , Osaka , Tōhoku , Tokyo , Yokohama ) and its own primate , which is currently Nathaniel Makoto Uematsu is. It currently has around 57,000 members (as of 2006).
