The artificial islands of Port Island and Kobe Airport are also part of the district.

history

The fishing village of Hyōgo in the neighboring district of the same name and temple complexes near the Ikuta shrine in Chūō formed the beginnings of the city of Kōbe, which was founded in 1868 as a foreign trade port.

The 1995 Kobe earthquake caused immense damage in Chūō-ku. Following the quake, the uninhabited and now deserted streets around the Higashimongai amusement mile were occasionally looted at night.

The land connections to the east, i.e. to the east of the city, to Osaka and Kyoto, were interrupted and the city was cut into two parts for weeks, with Chūō-ku from Akashi and supplied by the sea.

The district has the Kobe Airport .

Railway lines: the JR West San'yō Shinkansen with a stop at Shin-Kōbe station , the JR Kōbe line as a section of the Tōkaidō main line , the Hankyū Kōbe main line , the San'yō Denki Tetsudō main line , the Kobe Kōsoku Tetsudō Tōzai- line , the Seishin-Yamate line and Kaigan line of Kobe Municipal subway and Kobe Shinkōtsū port-Iceland-line .
