Kobe Luminarie
Kobe Luminarie ( Japanese 神 戸 ル ミ ナ リ エ , Kobe Ruminarie , from Italian for "fairy lights") is a festival of lights in Kobe , Japan .
It has been held every December since 1995. The Kobe Luminarie is intended to regularly commemorate the Kobe earthquake in 1995 and to mourn the victims. It has now become a winter tradition. The lighting is arranged by the Italian artist Valerio Festi and the Japanese Hirokazu Imaoka . The lights are turned on for a few hours each evening for about two weeks. Around four million people come to Kobe every year to see this spectacle.
From 1999 to 2005 both people organized a sister festival called Tōkyō Milenario ( 東京 ミ レ ナ リ オ , Tōkyō Mirenario ) in Marunouchi , Chiyoda , Tokyo .
