Hyōgo-ku ( Japanese 兵 庫区 ) is a municipality ( ku ) of Kobe . It is 14.54 km² and with a little over 100,000 inhabitants, the second smallest of the nine boroughs. The third highest population density with almost 7400 inhabitants per km² underlines its inner city character directly west of the central district Chūō-ku .

Naming

The old fishing village Hyōgo in today's district formed the starting point for the establishment of the foreign trade and port city of Kobe in the Meiji period together with the temple complex Kobe located in the east of Sannomiyas . Both the city district and the newly established Hyōgo prefecture took over the name of the fishing village.

Hyōgo has little mountainous, hardly populated hinterland and consists mainly of inner-city residential and business areas with extensive industrial and port facilities on the sea side. There you will find large plants from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (shipbuilding) and Kawasaki Heavy Industries .

Hyōgo is by the railway lines JR West JR Kobe Line as a section of the San'yō Main Line , Wadamisaki Line , Kōbe Kōsoku Tetsudō Tōzai Line , Namboku Line , Shintetsu Arima Line , the Seishin-Yamate Line and Kaigan Line the subway Kobe , as well as through the Hanshin motorway well developed.

Like all areas south of the ridge behind north of the city center, Hyōgo also suffered great damage from the 1995 Kobe earthquake .

Attractions

  • By Sanda rinses from Rokko headland Wadamisaki formed of the port area in the Osaka Bay. In 1863, the company erected a fortified battery on the Mitsubishi factory premises , which is now a listed building.
  • The Kobe City Water Museum. The building is intended to reflect the German Renaissance style and houses, among other things, an exhibition on the regional fresh water system.
  • The "Wings Stadium" built for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea .
  • The temple Nōfuku-ji with a large Buddha statue ("Hyōgo- Daibutsu ").
