Episcopal Church of Jerusalem and the Middle East
The Episcopal Church of Jerusalem and the Middle East ( English Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East ) is a member church of the Anglican Communion . Its territory extends over Israel , Palestine , Iraq , Iran , Cyprus , Egypt , Algeria , Tunisia , Libya , Ethiopia , Somalia , Eritrea , Djibouti , Bahrain , Qatar , Yemen , Oman , United Arab Emirates and Kuwait . It has been independent since 1975 and owns four dioceses .
The origins go back to 1841 when the Anglican Church of England and the Evangelical Church in Prussia founded a joint diocese of Jerusalem . This became purely Anglican in 1887 .
