Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil
The Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil ( Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil , AECB for short) is a member church of the Anglican Communion and extends over the country of Brazil . About 20,000 people count towards it.
The ecclesiastical province consists of nine dioceses , which are headed by a bishop . One of these nine bishops is elected Bispo Primaz ( Primate Bishop ). This is currently Maurìcio José Araújo de Andrade , who was elected at the 30th General Synod of the Church in July 2006 and who took office on July 30, 2006.
The Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil has allowed women to be ordained. Many women serve as pastors in the church, especially in rural areas. In contrast, no woman has been ordained a bishop so far. The priesthood is allowed there for homosexual people in the church. The AECB made it possible for married homosexual couples to be married in church in June 2018 .
Church history
In 1810 the Anglican Church began to expand in Brazil. When Brazil enforced the separation of church and state in 1889, increased missionary work began. The Anglican newspaper Estandarte Cristão was first published in 1893 and is still published regularly today. In 1965 the Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil became autonomous.
