Type of construction and tracks

JR East and Keisei Dentetsu platforms

The stations of the JR East and the Keisei Dentetsu are in the most common form a station designed as through stations. Both companies share the eight platform tracks at the station. The tracks run in a north-west-south-east direction and are divided into four central platforms . The two northern platforms are approached according to the line they belong to, the two southern platforms according to their direction of travel. In the middle of the station there are four tracks without platforms, these are used by the Utsunomiya line and the Takasaki line of the JR East.

The station has been renovated since 2004. One of the construction workers who is responsible for the renovation signs has achieved a certain level of awareness because his signs are only made of colored adhesive tape.

Surroundings

In the drama series Trick , the train station and its surroundings were often the location for the series.

Until a few years ago, there was a street near the station with a large number of dagashi (sweets) sellers . However, their number has been declining for years, so that today only a few of the once 140 dealers remain.

The shopping street Nipporichūō-dōri ( 日暮 里 中央 通 り ) extends directly to the east of the station square . In this street and its surroundings there are a lot of shops for sewing and textile design.

use

In 2014, the station was used by an average of 103,809 passengers per day, making it 33rd out of over 900 on the list of the most frequently used stations of the JR East in 2014. In 2007, the Keisei main line was used by an average of 47,804 boarding and 39,952 passengers at the station. The station is the third most used station of the Keisei Dentetsu. There are currently (September 2008) no passenger numbers for the Nippori-Toneri Liner.
