Skyliner , Keiseis express train from Tokyo to Narita Airport

The Keisei Dentetsu KK ( Jap. 京成電鉄株式会社 , Keisei Electric Railway Kabushiki Kaisha , in short: Keisei ; . English Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. ), listed on the Nikkei 225 , is a private railway company in Chiba Prefecture and Tokyo , Japan . Keisei is included in the Nikkei index .

The name is made up of the character "kyō" from the word Tōkyō and "nari" from Narita (which are then read differently), and thus symbolizes the Keisei main line, which connects Tokyo and Narita. Other important train stations in the route network are in Funabashi , Narashino , Yachiyo and Sakura . With the Keisei Skyliner, Keisei operates the second major line to Narita Airport alongside the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) .

In addition to rail transport as its core business, Keisei is also active in the bus and taxi industry. Another mainstay is the activity as a property developer. Keisei is a major shareholder in the highly commercially successful Oriental Land Company , which operates Tokyo Disney Resort .

history

Keisei was founded in 1909 as a suburban railway in the east of Tokyo (first sections were Oshiage-Edogawa and Takasago-Shibamata). Gradually, the network was expanded to the important Ueno interchange station (1930) and in the direction of Chiba to Narita (1933).

In 1959, the gauge was changed from 1,372 to 1,435 mm in order to connect the route network directly with the Toei Asakusa line and Keikyu line in the following year . By sharing the tracks, passengers can get to the city center without having to change trains and take the Airport Express to Haneda Airport .

The Skyliner has been running to Narita Airport since 1978 . First the line led to today's Higashi-Narita station, until 1992 a joint route with JR East to the two terminals was completed.
