The Tokyo Disney Resort ( Japanese 東京 デ ィ ズ ニ ー リ ゾ ー ト , Tōkyō Dizunī rizōto ) is a leisure complex and holiday resort in the Japanese city of Urayasu . The resort is owned by The Oriental Land Company , which holds a license from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts . The facility was opened on April 27, 1983 as a single theme park ( Tokyo Disneyland ). There are now two theme parks, four hotels and two shopping complexes. Tokyo Disneyland was the first Disney theme park outside of the United States .

Tokyo Disneyland

The park was built by Walt Disney Imagineering in the same style as Disneyland in Anaheim , the Magic Kingdom in Florida , Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland .

There are seven different themed areas in Tokyo Disneyland. These include the five classic Disney themed areas USA Adventureland , Westernland (see Frontierland in the US parks), Fantasyland and Tomorrowland World Bazaar (see Mainstreet in the US parks), as well as Critter Country and Mickey's Toontown Fair . What is striking about Tokyo Disneyland are the large spaces that can be found in all subject areas to accommodate the large numbers of people. In 1997, Tokyo Disneyland was the most visited theme park in the world. In 2014, Tokyo Disneyland was the second most visited park in the world after the Magic Kingdom in Florida with around 17.3 million visitors.

Tokyo Disney Sea

The second park, built in 2001 for 335 billion yen (about 2.93 billion euros), is the fourth most visited amusement park in the world with around 14 million visitors (2014). The park consists of seven themed areas: Mediterranean Harbor, American Waterfront, Port Discovery, Lost River Delta, Arabian Coast, Mermaid Lagoon, Mysterious Island.
