The Ocean Park Hong Kong ( Chinese 香港 海洋 公園 / 香港 海洋 公园 , Pinyin Xiānggǎng Hǎiyáng Gōngyuán , Jyutping Hoeng 1 gong 2 Hoi 2 joeng 4 Gung 1 jyun 4 * 2 ), colloquially mostly known as Ocean Park for short , is an amusement park of the Special Administrative Region Hong Kong . It is near Wong Chuk Hang ( 黃竹坑 / 黄竹坑 , English Staunton Creek ) and Nam Long Shan ( 南朗 山, English Brick Hill ) on the south side of Hong Kong Island . Along with Hong Kong Disneyland, Ocean Park is one of Hong Kong's two theme parks. With 7.792 million visitors in 2014, it is currently the fourth largest amusement park in Asia and the thirteenth largest amusement park in the world.
The theme of the park relates to the marine environment .
history
The construction of the park , which opened in 1977, was organized by the Hong Kong Jockey Club , which received the necessary land free of charge from the Hong Kong government. In 1987 the park ceased to be a subsidiary of the club and became its own corporation, with the board appointed by the government. Today the park is run by Ocean Park Corporation , an organization that is financially independent and not for profit.
Division of the park & attractions
The park is divided into two parts: Lowland and Highland , the latter being located on a hill a little higher. The two parts are connected by a gondola lift.
Apart from the division into a higher and a lower part of the park, there was also a thematic structure: There are a total of eight themed areas on the park area: Headland Rides , Adventure Land , Amazing Asian Animals , Marine Land , Lowland Gardens , Whisker's Harbor , The Rainforest and Tai Shu Wan Entrance .
In addition to a few animals, there are also a total of 19 attractions on the grounds of the park, including two roller coasters: The Zamperla Wild West Mine Train (1999) and the double loop roller coaster Dragon from Arrow Dynamics from 1984.
Two more roller coasters are planned for the new Rainforest theme this year: The Arctic Blast powered coaster from German manufacturer Mack Rides and Hair Raiser from Swiss manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard , which will have five inversions.
