The Hong Kong Disneyland ( Chinese 香港迪士尼樂園 / 香港迪士尼乐园 , Pinyin Xiānggǎng Díshìní Leyuan , Jyutping Hoeng 1 gong 2 Dik 6 si 6 nei 4 Lok 6 Jyun 4 ) is the fifth leisure complex of the Department Walt Disney Parks and Resorts of the Walt Disney Company around the world and the second leisure complex in Asia . The complex is owned and operated by Hong Kong International Theme Parks Limited , a joint venture between the Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong government . The Hong Kong government holds a 53% stake in the company and gives the Walt Disney Company the upper hand in running the theme park. It is located in Penny's Bay ( 竹篙 灣 / 竹篙 湾 , Zhúgāo Wān , Jyutping Zuk 1 gou 1 Waan 1 ), on sea- reclaimed land , on the northeast tip of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. The opening took place on September 12, 2005.
The Walt Disney Company's leisure resort includes a Disney theme park with 35 attractions, three hotels ( Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel , Disney Explorers Lodge and Disney's Hollywood Hotel ) as well as 24 restaurants, 16 shops and various entertainment options.
The theme park consists of seven different countries ( Main Street USA , Adventureland , Grizzly Gulch , Mystic Point , Toy Story Land , Fantasyland and Tomorrowland ). The total area is 126 hectares , of which 54 hectares (approx. 43%) fall on the theme park. This makes the resort the smallest of currently 5 Disney parks worldwide.
The development is carried out both by the Disneyland Resort Line of the Mass Transit Railway and by several daily bus routes.
Visitor numbers
To date, more than 77 million people have visited the park. (As of early 2019) The Walt Disney Company announced a few months after it opened that by the end of November 2005, one million people had already visited the park.
The park originally had a daily capacity of 28,000 visitors. After the first year of operation, the facilities were expanded to increase the daily capacity to 34,000.
In the first year, the park attracted 5.2 million visitors, 7.1% below the target of 5.6 million. The number of visitors in 2007 fell by 23% to 4 million visitors. Since then, the number of visitors to the park has increased steadily every year. 4.5 million visitors were reached in 2008, 4.6 million in 2009, 5.2 million in 2010, 5.9 million in 2011, 6.7 million in 2012, 7.4 million in 2013 and 7.5 million in 2014.
