Henri Ferrari (born September 23, 1912 in Frontignan , † December 25, 1975 ) was a French weightlifter .

Career

Henri only started lifting weights in Montpellier when he was 23 years old . From 1938 it belonged to the French top class. His bad luck was that he achieved this on the eve of World War II and of course there were no international championships during the entire war. When he was finally able to take part in such after 1945, he was already 34 years old and his career was drawing to a close. He showed that he was a world-class weightlifter with his world records, which he set from 1943 to 1946. His world record of 169 kg in pushing the light heavyweight (up to 82.5 kg body weight) was particularly remarkable. At the time, this world record was 1.5 kg higher than the heavyweight world record of the Estonian Arnold Luhaäär with 167.5 kg.

At the end of his career, Henri Ferrari, who was a hairdresser in Montpellier, achieved an excellent 3rd place at the 1946 World Championships in Paris . A high school in Montpellier was named in his honor.
