Nippori-Toneri Liner

The Nippori-Toneri Liner ( Japanese 日暮 里 ・ 舎 人 ラ イ ナ ー , Nippori-Toneri Rainā ) is an Automated Guideway Transit System in Tokyo , which runs between Nippori Station in Arakawa and Minumadai-shinsuikōen Station in Adachi . The operator of the line, which opened in 2008, is the Tokyo Prefecture Transportation Office .

Route description

The route is 9.7 km long and has 13 stations. You can change to the Yamanote line at Nippori and Nishi-Nippori stations . The travel time for the entire route is 20 minutes, which is much shorter than the 60 minutes that would be required to travel by bus during rush hour.

The completely elevated double-lane carriageway runs on steel bridges that are supported by steel pillars. The superstructure is designed as a plate bridge, which is supported by two parallel hollow box girders.

In 2012, the system was used by an average of 62,600 passengers per day.

Trains

The trains consist of five two-axle rubber-tired vehicles that run on a concrete roadway. The track guidance is guided by hard rubber rollers arranged horizontally to the side in front of and behind the support axle.

history

Before the Nippori-Toneri Liner was built, the western part of Adachi was poorly served by public transport. The planning of the line began in 1985 and initially envisaged a full metro line. The project was dropped due to the high construction costs in relation to the expected number of passengers and replaced by the more cost-effective project of an Automated Guideway Transit System. The construction of the line began in 1997, the opening took place on March 30, 2008. The main contractor was the Tokyo subway construction company , which also built the Ōedo line .
