Church of the Province of the Indian Ocean
The Church of the Province of the Indian Ocean is a member church of the Anglican Community and includes the territory of Madagascar , Mauritius , La Réunion and the Seychelles . After the missionary work of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel began in 1864 , its own Anglican diocese was founded in 1874. In 1969 it was divided into three dioceses. Together with the Anglican Diocese of Mauritius, whose origins lie in the missions of 1810, and the Seychelles, it was elevated to an independent Anglican ecclesiastical province in 1973 . Today it is divided into eight dioceses and has around 505,000 believers. The spiritual leader is the Archbishop of the Indian Ocean Province , currently James Richard Wong Yin Song .
The church is a member of the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC).
