Fianarantsoa (coll. Also Malagasy Fianara ) (in German "where one learns the good") is a city in Madagascar founded in 1830 with 167,240 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2005).
Fianarantsoa is the capital of the faritra (region) Haute Matsiatra , until October 2009 it was also the capital of the province of Fianarantsoa . In the city are the Université de Fianarantsoa and a cathedral .
Fianarantsoa is the starting point for trips to the east coast and the south of the country. An important employer in the city is the automobile manufacturer Karenjy , which has its assembly plant here.
