Ecclesiastical Province of Uganda of the Anglican Communion
The Church of Uganda ( English Church of the Province of Uganda ) is a member church of the Anglican Communion in Uganda and has its origins in the work of the Church Missionary Society since 1877. After she could dedicate her first local cleric in 1893, she experienced strong internal growth, so that in 1961 it became a separate ecclesiastical province with Rwanda and Burundi . The last two countries mentioned became an independent Anglican ecclesiastical province in May 1980 , so that the ecclesiastical province of Uganda today only consists of the country mentioned.
The ecclesiastical province comprises 33 dioceses . Its membership is 8.1 million.
The primate of the church is the Archbishop of Uganda, Stanley Ntagali since 2012 .
The Church Province of Uganda practices the ordination of women . She is a member of the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC). For the Reformed Episcopal Church there is an agreement to the church fellowship as well as to the Anglican Church in America founded in 2008 .
