Henry Luke Orombi

Henry Luke Orombi (* 1949 in Goli , Uganda ) is the Anglican Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Bishop of Kampala . In this capacity he is also the Chancellor of Uganda Christian University .

Henry Orombi was born in Goli, in northwest Uganda. He was converted to Christ in the teachers' college . In 1974 he first met Janani Luwum, the then primate of Uganda, who convinced him that he should study theology. He then attended Bishop Tucker Theological College , now Uganda Christian University near Kampala. During this time he learned in the seminar that Janani Luwum, the then primate of Uganda , was kidnapped by Idi Amin's soldiers. Luwam was killed shortly afterwards.

After the seminar worked as a youth pastor and was arrested under Idi Amin and was in prison for some time. He was ordained a priest in 1979 and from 1980 to 1983 he attended St John's College in Nottingham , England.

After his return he was youth pastor in the diocese of Madi and West Nile until 1986 , from 1987 to 1993 as archdeacon in Goli in the district of Moyo and from 1993 to 2003 bishop of Nebbi . He started there with practically nothing, and by ten years he had a church infrastructure in place that included churches, training centers, a runway for missionaries' planes, and urban and rural social work from South Korea, Scotland, England and Anglican Germany attracted.

On Jul 4, 2003 he was elected the new Archbishop and installed on January 25, 2004 in a solemn service in front of 2000 guests including President Yoweri Museveni . In 2008, according to a report in the New Vision newspaper, he confessed that he was afraid for his life because of homosexual people's murderous intentions he believed he was questioning.
