Development project

The Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) has been supporting the water supply and disposal of the city in the hotly contested north of Uganda since 1997. First, the city's original water supply system was restored and the construction of a self-supporting structure for operation and administration began. Subsequently, the connection of several public facilities outside the city center (hospital, schools, boarding schools) to this water supply system was promoted. In the further course work began to improve the sanitation of the residents in line with the principles of Ecological Sanitation (EcoSan). As part of the current phase, the city's water supply is to be stabilized primarily through support for operations and maintenance. Furthermore, the implementation of a photovoltaic pumping system is planned to ensure a constant supply of water for the population of Kitgum, which is possible regardless of the security situation in northern Uganda and to eliminate the city's dependence on supplying the city with electricity and / or diesel for generators and pumps helps.
