Berlin aktuell was a private radio station from Berlin that saw itself as a pure news program. The station existed from May 1998 to October 2000 . Michael Häutemann was the editor-in-chief .

history

Berlin aktuell was started in May 1998 on the FM frequency 93.6 MHz as the successor to the radio station Newstalk . The station saw itself as “Newsradio for the new Berlin” and was founded to compete with the public service Inforadio , which had existed for two and a half years at that time. In 1999 the private broadcaster had 65 employees, 23 of whom were permanent editors .

On April 17, 2000, the Berliner Zeitung reported that the State Media Authority Berlin / Brandenburg is currently re-tendering the frequency of Berlin and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) wanted to take over the station. “ Berlin aktuell has a checkered history behind it, and not a successful one. After the attempt to make a news-oriented radio program with Newstalk failed , the majority shareholder MITI (the US company Metromedia International Group) made another attempt in 1998 with a new name and a modified concept. But so far the listener has not been successful ”.

In November 2000 the FAZ officially took over the station and currently incorporated Berlin into the FAZ Business Radio , which also only existed for two years. Today the FM frequency 93.6 MHz is assigned to the music station Jam FM .
