The Ensemble Noisten was founded in 1999 in North Rhine-Westphalia by the clarinetist Reinald Noisten. It not only plays traditional and jazzy klezmer music, but has also made it its mission to develop Jewish music further through improvisation and original compositions.

The ensemble therefore worked on the Klezmer meets Sufi project , a combination of Jewish and Islamic music including dance. A first performance took place on June 19, 2005 at the Kemnade International Festival in the Hattinger Wasserburg Haus Kemnade .

Another concept is the combination of music and poetry recitations in collaboration with actors such as Hannelore Hoger and Nina Hoger . A recording appeared in stores in 2008. Poems by Else Lasker-Schüler are musically accompanied.

The guitarist Helmut Sanftenschneider was replaced by Claus Schmidt in 2009.
