Nathaniel Makoto Uematsu

Nathaniel Makoto Uematsu ( Japanese ナ タ ナ エ ル 植 松 誠 , Natanaeru Uematsu Makoto ; * 1952 ) is the Anglican Bishop of Hokkaidō and since 2006 primate of the Nippon Sei Ko Kai .

Uematsu studied at Osaka University of Arts , where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1975 . He then attended Philips University in Enid , Oklahoma , where he received his Master of Arts in 1978 .

Uematsu attended the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the South West in Austin , Texas and received his Master of Divinity there in 1982 . From 1982 to 1986 he was curator of the parish of St Marks Ashiya in Osaka . Uematsu was ordained a priest in 1984 . From 1986 to 1994 he held the office of rector of the Holy Trinity in Osaka and then from 1994 to 1997 he was general secretary of the ecclesiastical province administration. In 1997 Uematsu received episcopal ordinationand became bishop of the diocese of Hokkaidō. At the 56th General Synod in 2006 he was elected as the successor to Jacob Tōru Uno ( ヤ コ ブ 宇 野 徹 ) primate of the Nippon Sei Ko Kai.
