Friedrich Gottlieb Süskind
Friedrich Gottlieb Süskind (born February 17, 1767 in Neuenstadt am Kocher , † November 12, 1829 in Stuttgart ) was an Evangelical Lutheran theologian .
Life
From 1798, Süskind was a professor and early preacher in Tübingen, later also 2nd superattendent at the Tübingen monastery . In 1805 he was appointed chief preacher (until 1814) and consistorial councilor, and in 1814 also director of the high school administration. He played a key role in the liturgical reorganization (1809) in Württemberg, which was designed according to Enlightenment principles.
Süskind is regarded as the "dialectician" of the older Tübingen school , which was founded by his teacher Gottlob Christian Storr , but at the same time as its apologist for the philosophers Kant , Fichte and Schelling . On the basis of the Kantian Critique of Reason, he established the belief in revelation in the sense of supranaturalism .
In addition to Süskind, Johann Friedrich Flatt , Carl Christian von Flatt , Ernst Gottlieb Bengel , Johann Christian Friedrich Steudel and others are included in the older Evangelical Tübingen School, which, in contrast to the Enlightenment and rationalism, was characterized by a supranaturalism and "Holy Scripture as divine Authority authenticated [and] revelation free of contradictions as the starting point and basis of all theological judgment. "
One of his cousins was the progenitor of the baronial house of Süsskind , the Augsburg banker Johann Gottlieb Süsskind.
His sons were Eduard Süskind and Hermann Süskind .
