nature

The Banggai Islands lie in the biogeographical transition zone between the Asian and Australian flora and fauna, east of the Wallace Line . They belong to Wallacea, a hotspot, i.e. a key region of the earth with a very high level of biodiversity, but in which animals and plants are in some cases severely threatened.

Animal species endemic to the Banggai Islands include the Banggai cardinalfish , Banggai crow and Peleng tarsier .

In the spring of 2000 a severe earthquake caused considerable damage to the islands.

getting there

The Banggai Islands can be reached by ship or boat from the city of Luwuk in Sulawesi. Luwuk is connected to both the flight and the bus network of Sulawesi.

Despite suitability, there is still hardly any tourism. Dives are offered.
