The Lingga Islands ( Indonesian Kepulauan Lingga ) are off the east coast of Sumatra in the Malay Archipelago , south of the Riau Archipelago counting Rempang and Bintan .

The inhabitants are Malay , Bugis and Chinese .

The archipelago consists of:

  • Lingga , one of the two large islands, lies at the level of the equator, has an area of ​​889.2 km² and a coastline of 228.2 km. The Lingga Mountains reach a height of 1163 m. A port in the south is Bukit Cening .
  • Singkep , the second large island with the most important, small town Dabo Singkep in the east and the port of Jago in the north. It has an area of ​​757.3 km² and a coastline of 174.9 km and reaches an altitude of 475 m. Near to the west is the small island of Posik .
  • Selayar , between Lingga and Singkep
  • Sebangka , north of Lingga and east of Bakung
  • Bakung , north of Lingga and west of Sebangka

Other small islands:

  • Senayang , Kapas , Kentar and Mowang
  • Lobam and Cempah , west of Sebangka
  • Mesanak , north of Senayang
  • Temiang , northwest of Senayang

Ferries go to Tanjung Pinang on Bintan .
