Rempang ( Indonesian Pulau Rempang ) belongs to the Indonesian Riau Islands off the east coast of Sumatra in the Malay Archipelago .

geography

Rempang is north of Galang , west of Combol and Citlim and south of Batam and Bintan . The area of ​​the island covers 153.6 km², its coastline 78.8 km. The highest elevation is 150 m.

Together with the neighboring islands, it forms the Barelang archipelago (abbreviated from Batam-Rempang-Galang).

The city of Airnanti is in the north, Sembulang in the southeast. Numerous smaller islands are particularly located on the north coast.

The 385 m long Barelang Bridge, built in 1997, connects Rempang with the neighboring island of Galang to the south.

The street Jl. Trans Barelang connects Rempang with the northern neighboring island of Batam via some road bridges to smaller islands: from Rempang to Setoko (365 m long), from Setoko to Nipah (270 m), from Nipah to Tonton (420 m, completed in 1997) and from Tonton to Batam (644 m and also completed in 1997).

Rempang can be reached by ferry from Tanjung Pinang on Bintan in half an hour .
