Galang ( Indonesian Pulau Galang ) belongs to the Indonesian Riau Islands off the east coast of Sumatra in the Malay Archipelago .

Galang is 350 m south of Rempang , east of Combol , north of Galang-Baru and southwest of Bintan . Further south lies Abang-besar , along with other islands . The area of the island covers 80 km². The most important place is Sinyantung on the northwest coast.

Together with the neighboring islands, it forms the Barelang archipelago (abbreviated from Batam-Rempang-Galang). The 385 m long Barelang Bridge, built in 1997, connects the islands of Rempang and Galang. A 180 m long bridge leads to the neighboring island of Galang-Baru to the south.

Around 1979 the sea area in front of Galang was approached by many boat refugees, aid ships such as the Flora from the Red Cross were used here. Settlements for more than 15,000 refugees have been built on Galang, mainly Vietnamese boat people , but also Chinese refugees from Java .
