Gottlob Christian Storr (born September 10, 1746 in Stuttgart ; † January 17, 1805 there ) was a German Protestant theologian . He founded the older Tübingen school of exegesis.
Life
Storr, son of the Konsistorialrat Johann Christian Storr and older brother of Wilhelm Ludwig Storr (1752–1804), attended the monastery school in Denkendorf and the grammar school in Stuttgart and from 1763 studied first history, mathematics, philosophy and philology, from 1765 then theology in Tübingen , among others with Jeremias Friedrich Reuss , Johann Friedrich Cotta (1701–1779) and Christoph Friedrich Sartorius (1701–1782). After the theological exam (1768) he undertook an educational and research trip through Germany, Holland, England and France from 1769 to 1771.
In Tübingen he became repetitee at the monastery in 1772. On November 28, 1775, in Tübingen, he married Charlotte Amalie Reuss, born in Copenhagen , a daughter of Jeremias Friedrich Reuss. In 1775 he became associate professor of philosophy in Tübingen and in 1777 associate professor of theology. In 1786 he succeeded Tobias Gottfried Hegelmaier (1730–1786) as the third professor and held lectures in moral theology and systematics.
On November 6, 1797 Storr was appointed senior court preacher by Duke Friedrich II and at the end of the year moved to the court in Stuttgart as senior consistorial advisor.
Storr is regarded as a pioneer of the purely biblical supranaturalism and founder of the older Tübingen school ( Tübingen Orthodoxy ). He held the theory that the canonical gospels go back to the apostles themselves. In terms of the order in which the Gospels came into being, he was one of the earliest representatives of the Mark priority, in contrast to the Augustinian postulate of the Matthew priority, which has not been in doubt for centuries.
