Yi (Huangshan)

Yi County ( Chinese 黟 县 , Pinyin Yī Xiàn ) is a district of the prefecture-level city of Huangshan in the Chinese province of Anhui . It has an area of 847 km² and has 100,000 inhabitants. Its main town is the large municipality of Biyang (碧 阳镇).
The old architecture of the villages Hongcun (Hongcun gu jianzhuqun 宏村 古 建筑 群), Xidi (Xidicun gu jianzhuqun 西递 村 古 建筑 群) and Nanping (Nanpingcun gu jianzhuqun 南屏 村 古 建筑 群) has been on the since 2001 and 2006 respectively List of Monuments of the People's Republic of China , Xidi and Hongcun were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001.
