Tomáš Duba (born July 2, 1981 in Prague , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with Gangwon High1 from the Asia League Ice Hockey since 2018 .

Career

Tomáš Duba began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of HC Sparta Prague , where he was active until 2001. As a loan player, he completed a game for HC Slaný in the third-class 2nd division in the 1999/2000 season and eight games for the professional team of HC Berounští Medvědi in the second-class 1st division in the 2000/01 season . He was then selected in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round as a total of 217th player by the Pittsburgh Penguins , for which he never played. Instead, the goalkeeper ran from 2001 to 2003 for SaiPa Lappeenranta in the Finnish SM-liiga . He then spent a year each in the Czech extra league at HC Znojemští Orli and HC Lasselsberger Plzeň . During his time at HC Znojemští Orli, he was also elected Rookie of the Year in the Extraliga.

In the 2005/06 season Duba stood at Leksands IF in the Swedish Elitserien between the posts. With the team he rose at the end of the season in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan , whereupon he left the club. He started the 2006/07 season at TPS Turku in the SM-liiga. There he had teething problems and could not convince in his eight missions, which is why he returned to HC Sparta Prague, with whom he became Czech champion in the playoffs . After another year and a half, the Czech was again given the opportunity to play in the SM-liiga, and joined Ässät Pori , where he played a total of 15 games in the 2008/09 season . He spent the entire 2009/10 season at HC Oceláři Třinec . He also began the following season at HC Oceláři Třinec, who after only four missions awarded him to league rivals HC Zlín until the end of the season .

For the 2011/12 season Duba was obliged by HC Lev Poprad from the Continental Hockey League . At the end of January he was loaned to the Piráti Chomutov from the second-class 1st division, with which he managed to move up to the extra league. At the beginning of November 2012 he switched to the Italian Serie A1 , where he signed with the reigning record champions HC Bozen . Since January 20, 2013 Duba was in the service of the DEL team Krefeld Pinguine , with whom he signed a contract until the end of the season. In April 2013 he extended his contract by one year for the 2013/2014 season, and in March 2014 for a further two years until the end of the 2015/2016 season.

For the 2016/17 season he moved to the Austrian first division club EC KAC .

International

For the Czech Republic , Duba took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championships in 1999 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2000 and 2001 . At the U20 World Championships in 2000 and 2001, he and his team won the world championship title. At the 2001 tournament he also had the lowest average goals conceded per game with 1.14 goals and the highest catch rate with 94.7 percent and was also voted the best goalkeeper. In the senior sector he was in his country's squad for the Euro Hockey Tour in 2005 and 2008 .
