Martin Hosták (born November 11, 1967 in Hradec Králové , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who played for the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League from 1986 to 2001 . Since 2017 he has been General Manager of HC Zlín from the Czech Extraliga .
Career
Martin Hosták began his career as an ice hockey player at the TJ Stadion Hradec Králové . From 1986 he played for the professional team of Sparta ČKD Prague in the Czechoslovak 1st division . During this period he was selected in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft in the third round as a total of 62nd player by the Philadelphia Flyers . Initially, however, he stayed in Czechoslovakia and won the Czechoslovak championship with Prague in the 1989/90 season . Following this success, the winger went to North America, where he was under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers from 1990 to 1992. In the 1990/91 season , his rookie year in the National Hockey League , he scored three goals in 50 games and gave ten templates. He also ran 14 times for the Flyers' farm team , the Hershey Bears from the American Hockey League . In the 1991/92 season he came only to five NHL appearances for Philadelphia and spent the entire remaining season in the AHL team from Hershey.
From 1992 to 1996 Hosták played for MODO Hockey in the Swedish Elitserien . With his team he failed in the 1993/94 season only in the playoff final at Malmö IF . The 1996/97 season started the 1994 Olympian with his ex-club HC Sparta Prague in the Czech Extraliga , but returned to Sweden during the current season, where he received a contract with Södertälje SK , for which he spent the following year and a half stood on the ice. The left shooter last played for Luleå HF from 1998 to 2001 , before ending his active career at the age of 33.
International
For Czechoslovakia Hosták took part in the U128 Junior European Championship 1985 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 1987 . For the men's national team of the ČSSR he went on the ice at the 1990 World Cup , where he won the bronze medal.
For the Czech Republic he was in the squad at the World Championships in 1993 and 1995 , and at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer . With the Czech Republic he also won the bronze medal at the 1993 World Cup.
As a trainer
After his career he worked temporarily as a trainer in the Czech Republic, among others at HC Chrudim and HC Hradec Králové . In the 2010/11 season he was in charge of the Czech U18 national team.
Since 2017 he has been General Manager of HC Zlín from the Czech Extraliga .
