In the area of the natural park, the Loire is still a free-flowing body of water today, as no dams or locks influence its natural course. The area is divided into various forms of landscape that originate from the watercourse of the Loire and its tributaries and, through the measures taken to preserve the natural environment, lead to a species-specific diversity of flora and fauna. They are:

Away from the protected core zones, the area is characterized by agricultural cultures, with particular emphasis on viticulture in the Anjou wine-growing region and in Saumur . Typical of this landscape is the tuff , in which various types of cave dwellings and reservoirs were built, but which was also used for the construction of the many castles in the Loire . In 2000, the Loire Valley between the towns was Sully-sur-Loire and Chalonnes-sur-Loire because of the rich natural and cultural landscape to the world heritage of UNESCO explained. Around 2/3 of this area is in the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Nature Park.
