Montsoreau is a French municipality with 446 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Saumur and the Canton of Saumur .
The association Les plus beaux villages de France has declared Montsoreau one of the most beautiful villages in France .
The municipality is part of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Nature Park . Its administration and information center in the Maison du Parc is also located here .

Between the village and the Loire is the 15th century castle of Montsoreau . The castle in a strategically important location once secured the road from Chinon to Saumur . From the battlements of the castle you can see the Loire and the roofs of Montsoreau. The dried out moat between the castle and the village is clearly recognizable.
