Vernantes is a French commune with a population of 1,997 (as at 1st January 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire . The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Saumur and the canton of Longué-Jumelles . The inhabitants are called Vernantais .
geography
Vernantes is about 17 kilometers north-northeast of Saumur in the Baugeois . Vernantes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mouliherne in the north, Noyant-Villages in the northeast, Vernoil-le-Fourrier in the east, La Breille-les-Pins in the south and southeast, Neuillé in the southwest, Blou in the west and southwest and Saint-Philbert-du -Peuple to the west.
