John Menegon is a jazz - bassist , composer and arranger .

biography

John Menegon began his career as a jazz bassist in Montreal (Canada). After a few years in the Canadian jazz scene, u. a. with guitarist Sonny Greenwich and saxophonists Steve Grossmann and Pat LaBarbera , he moved to New York in the 1980s to further develop his skills. There he met saxophonist Peter Yellin, Director of Jazz Studies at Long Island University in Brooklyn, who offered Menegon a scholarship to study jazz. Since moving from Montreal to New York, John Menegon has worked with Kenny Barron , Bruce Barth , Paul Bley , Anthony Braxton 's Tri-Centric Orchestra , Nick Brignola , Kenny Burrell , Jay Clayton , Jimmy Cobb , Jack DeJohnette , Al Foster , Played Slide Hampton , Sheila Jordan , Lee Konitz , JR Monterose , Adam Nussbaum , Pete Yellin .

Mengon was a member of the Dewey Redman Quartet (until 2006) and the David “Fathead” Newman Quintet. With jazz legends like Ornette Coleman , Charlie Haden , Don Cherry , Charlie Haden, Ed Blackwell and Keith Jarrett , Menegon played at jazz festivals in South Africa, Argentina, Turkey, Brazil, Europe and the USA. These musicians had a not inconsiderable influence on Menegon's playing style and compositions.

In 2003 his debut album Search Light was released . Menegon recorded the selection of his compositions and arrangements with Dewey Redman, John Gunther , Mark Dziuba , Mark McLean , Tani Tabbal and Teri Roiger .

He is also involved in the New York Trio Project together with drummer Jeff Siegel and guitarist Adam Rafferty . His album Fifth House was recorded and mixed in Menegon's studio.

For the past decade Menegon worked with the singer Teri Roiger. Originally formed as a duo for bass and voice, the cooperation resulted in the recording of the CD Misterioso with Jack DeJohnette and Kenny Burrell . Working with Teri Roiger and her quartet or currently (on Still Live , 2005) with her quintet gave Menegon the opportunity to record some of his vocal compositions.

Menegon's compositions were a. a. also used for modern dance, National Geographic television (Route 66), for the Nickelodeon station and documentaries.

Menegon teaches bass and gives jazz workshops at SUNY New Paltz, Bard College , Williams College in Massachusetts and Bennington College in Vermont.
