Pascel Emmanuel "Pat" LaBarbera (born April 7, 1944 in Mount Morris , New York ) is a Canadian saxophonist (soprano, tenor and alto saxophone), flutist and clarinetist of modern jazz, who was born in the United States .

Pat LaBarbera comes from a family of musicians - his brothers are trumpeter John LaBarbera and drummer Joe LaBarbera . He got music lessons from his father, he played in the family band at the age of six. From 1964 to 1967 LaBarbera studied at Berklee College of Music and with private tutors. LaBarbera became known as a soloist in the big bands of Buddy Rich , where he played from 1967 to 1973 (heard on the album The New One! From 1967). In addition, he appeared in TV shows, led his own formations and worked for example with Louie Bellson and Woody Herman .

In 1974 he moved to Toronto , Ontario and taught in the music department at Humber College . LaBarbera also worked with Elvin Jones (1975) and later toured Europe with him (1979). Pat LaBarbera also played an important role in the training of Canadian saxophonists. In the 1990s he also played in the big bands of Dave McMurdo and Frank Mantooth . In 2000 he received the Juno Award for the best jazz album in the field of traditional jazz for his CD Deep In A Dream .
