Neil Swainson

Neil Swainson (born November 15, 1955 in Victoria , British Columbia ) is a Canadian modern jazz bassist .

Live and act

After graduation, Swainson worked for Paul Horn and as a studio musician for two years . From 1978 to 1982 he was a member of Moe Koffman's quintet ; then he was employed by James Moody , George Coleman, and Zoot Sims ; with Woody Shaw he went on a European tour. He also formed his own group and recorded his debut album in 1987 with Shaw and Joe Henderson for Concord Records . From 1987 he worked in a duo with George Shearing , which was expanded after 1990 to include Grady Tate , Bill Mays and the guitarist Louis Stewart . Swainson was also a member of the all-star quintet "Free Trade" in the 1990s, which received international awards in 1994 for its album of the same name. He also appears in a trio with Rob McConnell (for example with Ed Bickert ). He also worked on recordings of the musicians mentioned, but also played albums with Walter Norris , Mel Tormé , Nat Adderley , Trudy Desmond, Kevin Dean , JMOG and Jay McShann . He was a member of the quartet of Kirk MacDonald and Lorne Lofsky .
