The Authion (in the upper reaches: Changeon ) is a river in France that runs in the regions of Center-Val de Loire and Pays de la Loire . It rises as Changeon in the municipality of Hommes , initially drains in a westerly direction, then swings to the south and reaches the Loire Valley at Bourgueil . Here it swings back to the west and from now on runs parallel to the Loire at a distance of a few kilometers. At Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil , around the confluence of its left tributary Lane , it suddenly changes its name to Authion and, after a total of 100 kilometers, flows into the municipality of Sainte-Gemmes-sur-Loire , not far from Angers , as a right tributary Loire. On its way, the river crosses the Indre-et-Loire and Maine-et-Loire departments and the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Nature Park . In the lower reaches the river was straightened and canalized . However, shipping has already ceased.
