Saint-Aubin church

Les Ponts-de-Cé is a French municipality with 12,679 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire . The city is located south of the city of Angers in the Loire Valley , a UNESCO World Heritage Site .

history

In 869, Charles the Bald had a fortified bridge built on the site of the present city to cut off the way up the Loire for plundering Vikings.

On August 7, 1640, a battle took place at Les Ponts-de-Cé between the troops of Louis XIII. and those of his mother Maria de 'Medici , who had supported a conspiracy against the young king. The battle, also known as the Drôleries des Ponts-de-Cé , ended in favor of the king.
