Sainte-Gemmes-sur-Loire is a French commune with 3,406 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire . The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Angers and the canton of Angers-2 (until 2015: Les Ponts-de-Cé ). The inhabitants are called Gemmois .
geography
The community is located south of Angers on the right, the northern bank of the Loire , whose valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Anjou wine-growing region , and on the eastern bank of the Maine , which flows into the Loire here. The Authion also flows into the Loire here (in the east of the municipality). Sainte-Gemmes-sur-Loire is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Angers in the north and northeast, Les Ponts-de-Cé in the east and northeast, Mûrs-Erigné in the southeast, Saint-Jean-de-la-Croix in the south, Denée in the southwest as well as Bouchemaine to the west and northwest.
