Seiches-sur-le-Loir (Loir Seiches on) is a French municipality with 2978 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire .
geography
Seiches is located on the Loir , a left tributary of the Sarthe in a region characterized by trade and traffic routes, which, however, quickly merges into agricultural and forestry areas to the north and west. The departmental capital Angers is 20 km away.
Surname
The name Seiches comes from the old Latin word Cepia and means: place planted with vines (French: Cep de vigne = the vine). There is no longer any viticulture in the area today, but in the canton, especially in Lué-en-Baugeois . Seiches is one of the oldest places in Anjou , built at the Loir crossing of the ancient road from Tours to Laval .
economy
Numerous service and craft businesses as well as social and cultural institutions cover a wide spectrum. The convenient location in a structurally weak area, however, favored the settlement of industry. Telephone booths, planters , frozen food and cakes are manufactured in Seiches , among other things .
traffic
In Seiches, the national road N 23 crosses the department road D 74 with the important traffic crossing over the Loir. There is a junction to the A 11 directly to the east of the municipality , on which the E 501 also runs in this section . Angers-Marcé Airport is just across the motorway .
