Dolmen de la Pierre aux Loups

The Allée couverte de la Pierre aux Loups (also Dolmen Pierre au Loup called - German  "stone of the Wolves" ) is located in the east of the city Seiches-sur-le-Loir in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire , in France . A dolmen of the same name is located in Joué-du-Bois in the Orne department . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The Angevin-type dolmen chamber is well preserved. The approximately four meter long capstone rests on three supporting stones. Only one stone remains from the corridor. The covering by a stone or earth mound has also been completely removed. There are several structures or megaliths in France with the name part “aux or de-Loup (s)” (e.g. the Dolmen de la Roche-aux-Loups , the “Table du Loup” or the menhir la “Roche aux Loups” ").

It is said that the Pierre au Loup dolmen was the home of a prostitute around 1830.

Nearby is the Dolmen du Bois de la Pidoucière .
